Ayesha Curry Reveals Why She Didn’t Want To Marry & Have Children

A clip has begun circulating online from an interview Ayesha Curry did with the Call Her Daddy Podcast back in August. During the episode, Ayesha reveals she had a different plan for her life before marrying NBA star Stephen Curry. “I didn’t want kids…I didn’t wanna get married,” she told host Alex Cooper. “I thought I was gonna be a career girl and that’s it.” According to the Toronto native, she was “never the little girl that, like, dreamt about the wedding dress and all of that.”

The pair initially met as teenagers in a youth group after Ayesha and her family relocated to Charlotte, NC. They would eventually reconnect years later in Los Angeles, and by 2008, they were officially dating. At the time, Ayesha had a budding acting career, and Steph was headed to the NBA. By 2011, the pair had married and begun building their family.

As excited as she was to embark on this new path, there was hesitation about taking such a big leap; however, she loved Steph and had “never experienced anything else.” She continued, “I’d never felt any differently than, like, this is who I wanna spend the rest of my life with. And so we kinda just dove in.” A year after tying the knot, Ayesha gave birth to their first child, Riley, who is now 13 years old. The happy couple also shares three other children, Ryan (10), Canon (7), and, most recently, Caius, who was born in May 2024.

As her world began to change quickly, Ayesha says “she didn’t even have time to think” about her wants and needs anymore. She added, “It’s so interesting. I spent my entire life, like, trying to work towards something, and then it kind of just disappeared, and I didn’t think twice about it.” That said, shortly after having Riley, she decided it was time to set goals for herself: “I have goals for myself. Like, this doesn’t feel right. I love being a mom, but I love doing other things too.”
