Solange Knowles is stepping into academia. The Grammy-winning artist has officially joined the University of California’s Thornton School of Music as its first scholar in residence. Over the next three years, she’ll teach a course, lead student workshops, and help shape new programs centered on music and cultural curation. Her course, Records of Discovery: Methodologies for Music and Cultural Curatorial Practices, will be taught in partnership with her creative agency, Saint Heron. According to the Los Angeles Times, the class will “explore the process of constructing curatorial frameworks alongside the context, craft and creation of musical landscapes.” Solange will also join the Dean’s Creative Vanguard Program, following Raphael Saadiq, who was named the first member in late 2024. Reflecting on the opportunity, Solange told the LA Times, “I am a G.E.D. graduate. I was a teenage mom. I was pregnant with my son at 17, so I didn’t get to further my education in the classical sense. But I was really blessed and honored to have enriched these other parts of education through my art, through travel [and] through the globalization of my life … so to be able to have access and broader tools as a scholar in residence, to enrich that and deepen that, is really so exciting for me.” While preparing to take on her academic role, Solange is also carving time for her music. She told Vogue Australia last year that she would “probably dedicate myself to it [making music] full time next year.” The artist, whose last album When I Get Home dropped in 2019, said she’s focused on creating works that “will inspire and occupy a space-time far beyond my own existence.”
Diddy’s Prison Terms And Release Conditions Revealed
Diddy’s legal troubles continue to unfold as new details emerge about the conditions he’ll face once his prison term ends. Following his conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, the Bad Boy Records founder was sentenced to 50 months behind bars and five years of supervised release. According to TMZ, once Diddy is released, he’ll be required to submit to random searches and avoid any contact with the victims in his case. He must also participate in outpatient treatment programs addressing both drug abuse and mental health concerns. Additionally, Diddy will take part in a court-approved domestic violence program as part of his supervised release conditions. Judge Arun Subramanian handed down the sentence of four years and two months earlier this month. While the jury found Diddy not guilty on the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, he was still convicted on the two prostitution-related counts. The music mogul has already served 13 months at MDC Brooklyn, which will count toward his 50-month sentence. He’s also been ordered to pay a $500,000 fine. It remains uncertain where Diddy will serve the rest of his time. In a letter to Judge Subramanian, his attorney Teny Geragos requested that he be transferred to FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, citing its drug treatment programs and proximity to family. “In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs,” Geragos wrote. Judge Subramanian responded that he could only recommend a general geographic area, not a specific facility, leaving the final decision to the Bureau of Prisons.

Y’all be drunk, making out in the club, and still call yourselves straight, and it’s fine.” Kehlani Addresses Dancing With Ice Spice Kehlani went on to explain how similar behavior is viewed differently when it involves someone from the LGBTQ+ community. “I, as a gay person, dance with a woman, and all of a sudden, I’m trying to hook up, I’m trying to hit that,” she said. “It creates this weird stereotype that gay people are predatory, which is wrong.” Her remarks resonated with fans and fellow artists, many of whom applauded her for calling out the stigma queer people still face in social spaces. Jim Jones Slams Tony Yayo While Talking To Memphis Bleek
In the fifth episode of Artist 2 Artist, an unfiltered conversation series, Harlem’s Jim Jones and Brooklyn’s Memphis Bleek found themselves addressing old tensions between Roc Nation, Dipset, and G-Unit. The chat quickly turned into a fiery defense of loyalty and independence after Bleek and Capo responded to recent criticism from Tony Yayo, longtime friend and G-Unit lieutenant of 50 Cent. Yayo had previously implied that Jay-Z doesn’t “take care of his people,” a claim that struck a nerve with Bleek, one of Hov’s most loyal protégés since the Roc-A-Fella era. During the discussion, Bleek firmly pushed back against that narrative. “That’s why you got ns like Yayo talking about, ‘Yeah, Jay don’t take care of…’ Nah, I don’t need Jay to go on tour,” Bleek said. “Ain’t nobody taking care of ns over here, B… All these n****s worrying about who taking care who. We lit. We getting money.” Jim Jones & Memphis Bleek Rip Tony Yayo His words reaffirmed what fans have long known — Bleek’s bond with Jay-Z runs deeper than money. Still, his defense lit a spark in Jim Jones, who jumped in to amplify the message and fire back at Yayo. The Dipset rapper unleashed a series of sharp jabs that blended humor and hostility. “People look at Bleek and don’t understand the business he’s doing. They always look at Jay like… But Bleek out here making moves,” Jones began, before taking direct aim at Yayo. “Yayo smoke hard coke, ya heard me. You look like you need to be taken care of. Go to the dentist, brush your teeth, get some hygiene, n***a. You look like you need help.” Jim didn’t stop there, calling out Yayo’s perceived financial struggles while invoking a line straight out of Paid in Full: “Tell your man 50 to send you an ounce or something. I got a G for every bump on your face.” The remarks reflected years of rivalry among the crews as each ascended to the top of hip hop at different periods. Resurfacing the long history of competition in New York City hip hop since its birth in the Bronx. The viral clip reignited long-dormant tensions between New York rap factions once at the center of the 2000s mixtape wars. Jones’ outburst highlighted a key truth in hip-hop: real hustlers define themselves by their grind, not by who supports them.
Mario Issues Apology Over Viral Outburst With Videographer In Fresno
Mario is setting the record straight after a viral moment from his recent performance at the Big Fresno Fair sparked debate across social media. The R&B singer took to Instagram on Tuesday (Oct. 14) to explain why he demanded a cameraman “get the f*ck off the stage” during his Oct. 12 set, saying the situation was a misunderstanding — not a meltdown. View this post on Instagram A post shared by MARIO (@marioworldwide) “People are misinformed about the Fresno situation,” the Baltimore native began in a series of Instagram Story posts. According to Mario, he arrived at the venue just ten minutes before showtime and had no idea a videographer had been cleared to shoot his set. When he noticed the cameraman moving near him on stage, it immediately disrupted his focus. “Multiple times while seeing the cameraman through my peripheral, I got distracted and one time almost tripped over a speaker trying to make sure I’m not walking in the same direction as him,” he wrote. “He was too far down stage. A cameraman is not supposed to be that far down stage unless he’s with you and shooting you that close for a reason. It really can throw you off.” Mario Apologizes For Big Fresno Fair Outburst The moment came to a head when Mario, visibly frustrated, interrupted his performance to tell the cameraman to leave. The clip quickly went viral. It drew mixed reactions from fans — some calling it unprofessional, others defending his right to control his space. In his statement, Mario admitted his emotions got the best of him. “I will take accountability for being a 0-to-100 type of person and this is why I stay out the way most of the time,” he said. “I never want one recorded incident to wipe away the work I’ve done as a person to stay out of y’all mouths and the blogs!” The “Let Me Love You” singer also extended an olive branch to the cameraman. He apologized for the outburst and even invited him to shoot his upcoming Nothing But Us tour “the right way.” “TO THE CAMERA MAN, YOU GOT CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE MY BOI,” Mario wrote. “IT WAS NOTHING PERSONAL.” He closed with gratitude for his fans. He concluded, “To the fans who were triggered, I love u. To u bots (middle finger emoji).”
Timbaland Faces Backlash Over Role in A.I. Music Video
In June, music producer Timbaland unveiled a bold experiment: an AI-generated artist named TaTa Taktumi, alongside his new venture, StageZero. The announcement has sparked widespread discussion, especially after the release of a music video featuring Taktumi, whose lyrics have drawn both fascination and critique. In her latest track, TaTa Taktumi delivers provocative lines: “I put ice on my shooter / he gonna duck immigration / b*tch I’m back now / check my stats now.” Fans and critics alike have debated the lyrics and the broader implications of an AI performer representing aspects of Black culture, raising questions about creativity, authenticity, and ethics. Speaking with Variety, Timbaland described TaTa Taktumi and StageZero as a new form of intellectual property. “TaTa’s gonna shock the world, man. I don’t want to reveal too much yet, but it ain’t what people think,” he said. He compared the project to Disney, adding, “I’m blurring the lines — TaTa is something truly unique. The video is 85% human-made; I’m only utilizing AI about 15% or less.” The release of a video snippet on X (formerly Twitter) ignited immediate reaction. One user wrote, “Using AI to create a non-Black artist to embody Black culture just so you can exploit without guilt is f*cking insane.” Another posted, “Timbaland destroying his own legacy wasn’t in my 2025 cards,” reflecting the intensity of the debate. Timbaland Defends AI in Music Despite the criticism, Timbaland insists AI is a tool, not a replacement for human creativity. “I don’t generate music like that because you still need the human element. I just use it to enhance other aspects of my music,” he told Variety. He also stressed the importance of skill and taste in using AI effectively. “It’s similar to traditional music: If you don’t grasp it well enough, you won’t achieve your desired outcome; your taste matters significantly. Poor taste leads to what they call ‘AI slop.’ However, if it’s utilized by someone proficient, you’ll be able to discern quality differences. You must treat [AI] as a collaborator rather than a creator.” Timbaland now occupies a contested space between innovation and cultural responsibility. While AI offers opportunities to expand creative possibilities, it also raises questions about representation and ethics. With TaTa Taktumi at the center of this conversation, the dialogue over artistry, technology, and accountability is far from over. | Timbaland debuted the first music video from his AI-generated ‘artist’, TaTa Taktumi pic.twitter.com/dknkOSvp7j — Blackish Press (@blackishpress) October 13, 2025
