Fresh off his appearance during The Roast of Kevin Hart, Meek Mill returned to familiar territory: reflecting publicly on the music that helped shape his career. On X, the Philadelphia rapper revisited Dreams and Nightmares, the dramatic opening track from his 2012 debut album, and argued that few rap records have carried the same cultural weight. “Dreams and nightmares one of the best rap songs to ever come out!” Meek wrote online. “From my years on this earth I never seen nothing with the same impact! Thank God for that lifetime energy shifter!” The post quickly circulated across hip-hop pages and fan accounts, reviving a debate that has followed the song for years. Admirers pointed to the record’s enduring popularity at sporting events, concerts, and social gatherings, where its explosive second half still sparks immediate recognition more than a decade later. More Than a Rap Anthem, ‘Dreams and Nightmares’ Still Defines an Era Produced by Tone the Beat Bully, the track became a defining moment not only for Meek but also for a generation of rap listeners who connected with its emotional build and triumphant release. The song anchored Dreams and Nightmares, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 after its release through Maybach Music Group and Warner Bros. Records. The project sold roughly 165,000 copies in its opening week and featured appearances from artists including Drake, Rick Ross, Nas, Mary J. Blige, and Wale. Not everyone agreed with Meek’s sweeping claim. Some listeners praised the record as a modern classic while arguing that other songs have achieved comparable influence. Even so, the reaction itself reflected the song’s staying power. More than ten years after its release, “Dreams and Nightmares” continues to occupy a rare space in rap: part motivational anthem, part personal testimony, and still one of the most recognizable intros of its era. @netflix Meek Mill closes out The Roast of Kevin Hart with “Dreams and Nightmares” #KevinHartRoast ♬ original sound – Netflix

Rapper Cam’Ron Says LeBron James Is Not An All-Time Great L.A. Laker
Cam’Ron sparked debate Tuesday after saying on First Take that LeBron James is “not an all-time great Laker.” The rapper’s hot take arrives after LeBron James lost in the NBA Playoffs. Cam’Ron made clear that his opinion was specific to James’ place in Lakers history, not his standing in the sport. “You’re not going to be considered Magic Johnson or James Worthy, or a Kareem, or Kobe Bryant,” Cam’Ron said. Cam’ron says Lebron is NOT an All Time great Laker (Via First Take) pic.twitter.com/pHM1jVc1aK — TheTruth (@TheTruth8240) May 12, 2026 Cam’s comparison highlights the standard of play between James and other Laker legends. Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Kobe Bryant each spent the prime of their careers in Los Angeles and won multiple championships. James joined the Lakers in 2018 at age 33 and led the franchise to the 2020 NBA title, the 17th championship in team history. Some fans agreed with Cam’Ron’s assessment. Rapper Cam’Ron Claims NBA Star LeBron James Is Not An “All-Time Great Laker” “I mean he’s not. But that’s not even really a knock. Bro started his career there at 34 years old,” one X user wrote. Another added that players such as Magic, Kobe and Kareem “actually hung banners PLURAL as a Laker.” Others pushed back. One user called Cam’Ron’s opinion misguided, writing, “He’s out of his mind.” The debate reflects a familiar question surrounding James’ career: whether an all-time NBA résumé automatically translates to the same stature within one of the league’s most decorated franchises.
Daz Dillinger Sues 2Pac’s Mom’s Company Over Unpaid Royalties
Daz Dillinger has sued Amaru Entertainment in federal court in California, alleging the company failed to provide a full accounting and underpaid royalties for several recordings by the late 2Pac. The complaint, filed May 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, says Dillinger, whose legal name is Delmar Arnaud, contributed songwriting, production, vocals and other creative services to a number of 2Pac songs, including “Ambitionz Az a Ridah,” “I Ain’t Mad at Cha,” “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted,” “Got My Mind Made Up” and “Skandalouz.” According to the suit, Amaru exploited and licensed those works for years while failing to issue complete royalty statements. Dillinger says he demanded payment records by Oct. 18, 2024. Amaru later sent him $91,445.27. “Amaru’s payment confirms that monies were due,” the complaint states. Producer Daz Dillinger Files Unpaid Royalties Lawsuit Against 2Pac’s Mom’s Amaru Entertainment Dillinger contends the company did not identify which songs, accounting periods or deductions were reflected in the payment. Without that information, he says he cannot determine whether the amount was “complete, accurate, timely, and inclusive of all exploitations.” The lawsuit asserts claims for accounting, breach of contract and breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing. Dillinger seeks compensatory damages, unpaid royalties, restitution, prejudgment interest, attorneys’ fees and a jury trial. Amaru was founded by Afeni Shakur after her son’s death. Following Afeni Shakur’s death in 2016, the company came under the management of Tom Whalley. The case adds to ongoing legal scrutiny surrounding the administration of 2Pac’s estate and catalog.
Pitchfork Calls Chris Brown’s New Album, “A Piece Of S#!T”
Pitchfork did not hold back in its assessment of R&B singer Chris Brown’s latest album, Brown. On Tuesday, May 12, the influential music outlet shared its review on X with a blunt caption: “This album is a real piece of shit.” This album is a real piece of shithttps://t.co/xbOFdTF24n — Pitchfork (@pitchfork) May 12, 2026 The post linked to a scathing review by staff writer Alphonse Pierre, who awarded the project a 1.3 out of 10. In the piece, Pierre argued that Brown’s new release is “soulless” and “hit-chasing,” suggesting the singer relies on familiar commercial formulas rather than artistic evolution. “Chris Brown’s soulless, hit-chasing new album doesn’t justify his return to the public eye,” Pierre wrote. Pitchfork Rips Chris Brown’s Brown Album: “This Album Is A Piece Of Shit” The critic then widened his lens beyond the music itself. “This album is a real piece of shit. Why even write about it?” he asked. “For years, traditional media has been tiptoeing around the popularity of Chris Brown, and in reality, that benefits nobody but him.” Pierre contended that the lack of sustained criticism has allowed Brown to shape his own redemption narrative through chart success and personal testimony. He closed with a pointed line: “Not every musical legend deserves to be a martyr.” After the review went live, Pierre acknowledged the scope of his essay on X. He writes that he “went a little long on 20 years of Chris Brown and his new album, Brown.” The response was immediate. Journalist Melissa Kimble praised Pierre’s candor, writing, “I followed just to show my support and applaud your realness.” At the same time, Brown’s fans pushed back, with one user accusing Pierre of bias and defending the album’s quality. The fierce reaction underscores Chris Brown’s enduring ability to divide both critics and listeners.

Man Sentenced To Two Years In Prison After Stealing Beyoncé’s Music
A Georgia man was sentenced to two years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to charges related to the theft of hard drives containing unreleased music from global superstar Beyoncé. Kelvin Evans, 40, entered the plea in Fulton County Superior Court, bringing an abrupt end to a case that began when members of the singer’s production team were targeted during her tour stop in Atlanta. Fulton County Superior Court Senior Judge Jane C. Barwick sentenced Evans to a total of five years, with two years to be served behind bars and the remaining three on probation. The charges included entering an automobile and criminal trespass. As part of the negotiated settlement, Evans was additionally ordered to maintain no contact with the victims and is prohibited from entering the parking facility where the crime occurred. The legal breakthrough happened just 48 hours after jury selection had commenced on Monday. Evans had previously maintained his innocence, rejecting an identical plea offer in March and telling the court he was “ready for trial.” However, the weight of the evidence presented by the prosecution proved significant. During the proceedings, prosecutors showcased surveillance footage that captured a red vehicle, allegedly operated by Evans, pulling alongside a rental SUV in a parking deck on Krog Street. Subsequent video showed Evans at an apartment complex unloading luggage that investigators identified as belonging to Beyoncé’s choreographer, Christopher Grant, and dancer Diandre Blue. Grant told authorities at the time of the incident that the thieves took two MacBook laptops, luxury apparel, and Apple headphones. More importantly, the stolen hard drives contained what Grant described as “personal sensitive information” belonging to Beyoncé, as well as unreleased musical tracks. Investigators were able to track the stolen laptops to a location in Hapeville, which matched the address where the red car was spotted on camera. The theft occurred on July 8, 2025, after Grant and Blue parked their 2024 Jeep Wagoneer in the Atlanta parking deck. They returned less than an hour later to find a shattered rear window and their belongings missing. Evans was eventually apprehended by Hapeville police on Aug. 26, 2025, and remained in custody at the Fulton County Jail leading up to his sentencing. “He is looking forward to putting this relatively large part of his life behind him,” Evans’ defense attorney said during the hearing. The lawyer told the judge that Evans is hoping for a future where he can participate in society and earn an honest living. Beyoncé was in the midst of her Atlanta tour dates when the July 2025 break-in took place. Evans had been under indictment by a grand jury since October and initially pleaded not guilty in January before changing his plea this week.
Kevin Hart Seemingly Responded To Backlash Following Netflix Roast
Kevin Hart is facing backlash following Netflix’s “The Roast of Kevin Hart.” The backlash stems from a joke regarding the death of George Floyd told by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe. While the event was intended to be a celebratory roast of the veteran actor and stand-up star, many viewers were left outraged by the material delivered by Hinchcliffe. During the special, Hinchcliffe told a joke referencing Floyd, stating that he was “looking up at us all laughing so hard he can’t breathe.” Hinchcliffe is no stranger to political and social controversy. The comedian recently drew significant national attention for a set performed at Madison Square Garden during Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Social Justice Leader Tamika Mallory voiced her opinion via Instagram stating, “there is literally NOTHING funny about how George Floyd was m*rdered. Allowing that white man or any other man to stand up there and disrespect US, while laughing, is disgusting. Part of the reason Black folks continue to face SEVERE attacks against our rights, is because some of us think everything is shits and giggles. It wasnt funny AT ALL.” View this post on Instagram There were widespread mixed reactions online to the George Floyd joke. One Instagram user wrote, “Comedy is comedy. I can laugh at jokes and still stand on business when it comes to real life. I’ve joked about different groups of people before, but I’m not out here trying to take away anyone’s rights or wishing for their downfall. When it gets to that point, that’s when I stand on business. Whether Black people laughed or not, jokes like these are still going to be made — we can’t change that. What we can do is continue to stand firm when real issues happen. I will say the George Floyd joke didn’t really land for me, maybe because I’m more sensitive about it. But people were also making jokes about Pete Davidson’s father dying in 9/11, and while that’s definitely insensitive, some of those jokes were actually funny.” Kevin Hart speaks: Kevin Hart seemingly responded to the backlash by sharing a video on Instagram, stating, “that, my friend, is what the f*ck a roast is supposed to be — hard-hitting, relentless jokes.” View this post on Instagram
